Meet The Team

Denise C. Johnson, CPA 

Associate Vice President  

Denise has worked in a variety of accounting settings over nearly 20 years ranging from private to non-profit to public accounting. She has experience working nearly every piece of the accounting process from payables to payroll to auditing to financial reporting. She enjoys helping business owners better understand their organization through financial reporting.

Denise is a Midwest transplant who has lived in New Mexico since 2002. She enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, reading and all things outdoors including hiking, biking, camping and cross-country skiing.

Eric Herrera, CPA CGMA


Eric is the founder and President of Blueprint, a financial and accounting business design firm. He has spent a lifetime funneling his energy into acquiring financial knowledge, building accounting systems, developing healthy teams and revitalizing the financial blueprint of many New Mexico companies. Eric’s passion and unique skill contributed to his decision to start Blueprint, a firm rooted in financial intelligence and information technology—built to design, organize and strengthen his client’s accounting and financial posture.

Eric has a broad background in both private industry and public accounting. As a CPA, his 24 years of experience covers real estate and construction taxation and business planning, mergers and acquisitions, tax planning for closely held businesses and owners, and business entity selection. Eric has extensive experience with business structures including S corporations, C corporations, partnerships, and limited liability companies (LLCs). His passion for client service has helped many businesses and business owners achieve their financial goals. Eric has published articles and delivered presentations on numerous tax topics; including real estate, federal tax updates, closely-held business planning and the alternative minimum tax.

Eric has been a servant leader in business circles and in the community. During his free time you can find him with his family enjoying things like cooking, traveling and enjoying the bosque.

Jennifer K. Cortez


Jennifer is an accountant, specializing in creating and maintaining customized financial blueprints for business clients. With nearly two decades of accounting experience she works seamlessly to offer her clients unmatched technical skill and an inviting client experience. She began her career in 2000 and has experience in accounting and business administration, with the vast majority of experience in bookkeeping with accounts payable, accounts receivable and general ledger clean up, new business set up, gross receipt tax calculation, payroll, federal and state payroll reporting, year-end reporting and individual tax returns. Jennifer is a Quick Books Pro Advisor certified to teach clients how to manage Quick Books.

Jennifer is a native to New Mexico who enjoys the outdoors while camping, fishing, hiking and biking. Also in her free time, she loves to spend time with her family.

Kirk Ward

Senior Vice President

Kirk Ward began his professional career in the construction industry in 1984 as a finish carpenter and he soon realized he found his passion in this industry. After a few years of field experience he moved into management positions of overseeing field operations, estimating and project management. In 1991 he co-founded a construction related manufacturing and installation company providing custom cabinetry and architectural woodwork that grew to nearly 100 employees serving clients throughout the United States and Asia. In 2006 he shifted his construction experience to facilities management. During this time he was able to develop systems and efficiencies in multiple areas including; work orders, scheduled maintenance, daily operational tenant services, long range deferred maintenance financial forecasting, security systems, energy consumption management, construction management/owner representative, purchasing/contracting services. Kirk is passionate about facilities operating at their maximum potential and increasing their asset value in the marketplace.

Kirk is a Midwest transplant who has lived in Albuquerque since 1982. He enjoys building projects around the house that his wife has found on Pinterest and RV travel with his wife and dogs.

Sherry Gonzales

Vice President  

Sherry brings nearly 20 years of experience in public and private accounting. Her extensive accounting knowledge and bright personality are a true reflection of her gold standard service. She started working in a local public accounting firm in 2003 and has been working in various accounting and payroll positions since 2007. Sherry is a Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor and trainer, and specializes in new account set-up and procedure implementation. She works closely with clients to improve accounting processes and utilize accounting software and financial information to effectively manage their businesses. She oversees bookkeeping, payroll and gross receipts engagement with the firm; and in the preparation of bank ready financial statements, review of payroll and gross receipts filings and preparation of tax returns for small businesses and their owners.

Sherry is a northern New Mexico native who enjoys the outdoors, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.

Tia McKillip, CPA 

Vice President  

Tia has a diverse background in both public and private accounting. She is highly technical and an expert in developing accounting systems, process and procedures, and budgeting tools. Tia’s clients value her attention to detail and critical thinking as she tackles all aspects of financial planning from accounting and bookkeeping services to tax planning, strategy and forecasting.

Tia is a New Mexico native who enjoys boating, fishing, camping, and spending time with her family.
